The Quilty Update

Well, I haven’t written much about my actual quilt progress in a long time. So I thought I would fill you in on what I have been spending most of the winter on : my Back Home Quilt. Well that is the name of the pattern I used originally, but as I basically only used the blocks and instructions from the pattern, I’ve decided to name it Yves’ Quilt, as it is for my husband Yves and that is the name I have been using most to refer to it lately. The deadline for this quilt is in 10 days exactly when he turns 40.

(Yikes! I have a lot to do)

At some time in the fall, I got back to working on this quilt and was able to finish all the blocks and start choosing fabric for the borders and backing .

After Christmas I managed to finish the quilt top and shortly thereafter, I began to hand quilt it. Last week I started the dark brown border quilting and now I am half way through the long side of one of the border strips, which I am quilting fall leaves on. Pictures of them will come when I am finished.

It will be a real challenge, as the leaves and dark fabric are not so interesting to quilt and so I can only do a few at a time between doing other projects, or four at a time before I am bored out of my mind.

Luckily I have had two other projects going at the same time to keep me sane.

I finished trimming these half-square triangles from a previous project, my Red Currant Quilt  , and now await some inspiration for what to do with them.

The same goes for these hexagons, that I used to learn English Paper Piecing.

They are three rows of 9 hexagons each. I plan to appliqué them, to some table linens, providing I did not glue them too tightly; which I fear may be the case.

So hopefully in no later than two weeks you will get another quilty update pronouncing it finished! But I can only hope… and of course work as fast as I can!

I guess it is time to get on with it. Happy quilting and creating, friends!

  1. Wow! That’s cool. I love the pattern for Yves! I bet he’s loving it as a bday gift. Homemade gifts are always best. I love your work and thanks for keeping us posted on your progress! Xoxoxox

    1. Hey Robyn, thank you! The best thing about it is that it is really cuddly and warm being all flannel. It will be hard to give to him, as I won’t have it anymore to keep me warm. Hope all is right in your world!
      Love, Jodie

  2. I simply don’t have the patience for such fiddly farty small pieces, lol, and certainly admire those that do! There’s a big difference between my quilting (which I suppose might insult the true quilters like you?) and yours 🙂 I look forward to seeing your finished Yves’ quilt!

    1. Well they are really tiny, maybe even too tiny for my abilities, I know the slightly larger ones weren’t easy. But I love them, it was worth it. And for me the only thing that defines quilts is the sandwich and some stitching. If they have that then it is a quilt. And you shouldn’t feel the need to please others with your quilts. If you love the quilts you make then that is all that matters, that they make you happy.
