Dear Readers,
after months of mild temperatures and even a few weeks of beautiful spring time weather, the last thing we expected this weekend was snow. But not being enough snow for snowshoeing, I gratefully accepted the opportunity to curl up on the sofa with a good book.
But like most of you, over in the US and Canada, who have spent the last months buried in snow, I too am ready to see a little sunshine again and to say goodbye to winter. So today I thought I would share with you one of my favorite destinations for getting a little color filled inspiration for the gardening season to come: “Meier’s” garden centre in canton Zurich.
I’ve visited the garden centre on a number of occasions, and yet I am still amazed by all that it has to offer. It is a must see for any garden lover and an excellent day out. People come from all over Switzerland, to visit this new Garden centre which offers just about anything a gardener could need under one roof, and then some.
Aside from its amazing selection of indoor and outdoor plants, there is a bookshop, a large selection of garden furniture, tools and equipment, as well as a beautiful gift shop and florist. On the upper level, they have a lovely light and inviting cafeteria, restaurant and bakery, which is the perfect place for recharging your shopping batteries.
I took these photos back in February, so I don’t have many photos of what they offer outside, but then I wouldn’t want to reveal all its little surprises!
Meier ’s Garden Centre is about a 35 minute drive south east of the city of Zürich. Opening hours are: Monday to Friday 8:30 – 18:30 and Saturdays 8:00 – 16.00.
The official Name and address of the garden centre is:
Ernst Meier AG
Kreuzstrasse 2 (Gewerbezone Lättenmoos)
8635 Dürnten
Switzerland
